The
deadline to apply for a 2009 Missouri's Cattlemen Foundation
Scholarship has passed. One hundred fifty seven
applications were submitted from 59 counties across Missouri.
Fifteen students were selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The 2009 class will be introduced during the upcoming Missouri
Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show, December 12-13, in
Springfield.
In a year of uncertain
weather, the last weekend of September was all anyone could ask
for and more. Clear skies, bright sunshine, mild
temperatures and abundant hospitality greeted over 70
participants at the annual Cattlemen's
Charity
Weekend at
Golden Hills Trail Rides and
Resorts in Raymondville on September 26-28.

day. But participants in the
Annual Cattlemen’s Classic Golf Tournament got a real treat
the day before! It was arguably the nicest day to date in 2008
– Wednesday, May 21 featured bright sunshine, pleasant

Southwest Cattlemen's Classic Golf Tournament will be held on
Thursday, August 7 at the Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club in
Bolivar.

Funds for two additional scholarship
endowments are being accepted. Dr. Wayne D. "Doc" Smith played a
valuable role in launching the Sullivan County Cattlemen's
Association and who has contributed much to the youth of
Missouri and animals around the area. For more on the "Doc" Smith Scholarship Fund,
check out the

Special people come into our lives and
always leave too soon. Kenny Morris was a friend, cheerleader
and mentor to most everyone he met. The Newton County
Cattlemen’s Association, its members and the area, in general,
benefitted from his gentle nature, words of encouragement and
generous, giving heart. Now they have launched a
scholarship in his memory.
