Fun for Funds: Golf
Tournament Raises Dollars for Missouri Youth
It could have arguably been the nicest day of the whole
summer - the sky was clear, the sun bright, the breeze was
light, the temperatures a comfortable upper 70s – absolutely
perfect weather for golf ….. and ….. it was August 7th! Just
a year earlier the state was reeling from an extreme drought
and a string of scorching 100+ degree days – but not in 2008
– it was a great day, a great location, great participation
and a great cause! One hundred twelve golf enthusiasts came
out to raise money to enhance the lives of Missouri youth.
This annual event is hosted each year by long-time
Missouri’s Cattlemen Foundation supporters, Joplin Regional
Stockyards at the beautiful Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club
in Bolivar. Since the Tournament started over $22,000 has
been generated to assist youth with special needs, provide
scholarships and educational programs. These results would
not be possible without the support of generous sponsors.
Contributing to the 2008 event were Newbold and Newbold of
Aurora, FCS Financial of Jefferson City and Dr. Harold
Haskins of Diamond. A big thank you, also, to Crystal
Mathews who helped throughout the day while on summer break
from her PhD studies at the University of Florida
Gainesville.
